Festuca Glauca Blue Select
In stock
Description
Festuca glauca 'Blue Select', commonly known as Blue Select Fescue, is a compact, clump-forming ornamental grass prized for its fine-textured, icy blue foliage. This evergreen grass retains its striking color year-round in milder climates, providing architectural interest to borders, rock gardens, and containers. In early to mid-summer, it produces delicate, tan flowering stems that add a soft, airy texture to the garden. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, Blue Select is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance, making it ideal for xeriscaping and low-water landscapes. Its compact habit and vibrant color make it an excellent choice for edging, mass plantings, or as a contrast plant in mixed perennial displays.
Sowing Advice
Sow Festuca glauca 'Blue Select' seeds in spring. Use a well-draining seed-starting mix and cover seeds lightly with soil. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and maintain a temperature of 18–22°C (65–72°F). Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots and grow them on until conditions are suitable for outdoor planting. Space plants 20–30 cm apart in a sunny location with well-drained soil.
